Take a Bite Out of This! An LGBTQ Photo Contest
Photos
In order to combat the often negative and unhealthy images portrayed in society of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals and families, Rainbow Health Initiative and the MN Tobacco-Free Lavender Communities developed a state-wide Photo Contest, "Take a Bite out of This!: An LGBTQ Photo Contest." The winning images will be used in a variety of media and marketing to portray healthy and positive LGBTQ lifestyles in Minnesota.

FAQ

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need an account / to register?

Only if you want to submit a photo. You can view and rate photos without registering.

  • Why do you ask for address and phone number when I register?

Registering is how we obtain your electronic signature to our contest rules and other legalese that we have to capture somehow when running a photo contest. If you have any concerns you can email us at photocontest@rainbowhealth.org and we will be happy to talk about it with you!

  • I uploaded my photo why can’t I see it on the website?

Because users upload their own photos to the website, RHI staff need to review all photos before they can be viewed by the general public. Your photo will appear on your own profile upon uploading. Photos will only become visible to the public after they have been approved by our website administrator. If you have questions regarding the approval of your picture please email photocontest@rainbowhealth.org.

  • Why aren't my username or password working?

There are a few things to think about if your username or password is not working. First of all, no account is activated until your email address is confirmed. After filling out our registration form check your email and confirm your account. After doing so, your account will become active and you will be able to log in, change profile information, and upload photos to the contest.

  • Am I am an Amateur or an Artist?

Ultimately, you decide which category to put yourself into. Having two categories is our attempt to give people of all different skill levels a chance to participate, win, and be published.

Some suggestions of who would be in each category:

You might want to put yourself in the Amateur category if you...
have never used a camera before
have used a camera, but mainly for vacations, friends, and family shots
have frequently taken pictures that include your thumb
have never won a photo contest or award for photography before
do not feel like the word artist fits you

You might want to put yourself in the Artist category if you...
have ever been paid for taking photos
have a pretty good handle of what aperture and Fstop mean
    have taken photography classes
have won a photo contest/award before, such as the first annual RHI photo contest
would describe yourself as an artist of any form

If you are still not sure? Flip a coin -or- shoot us an email and let us know what you are thinking:)

  • Error: connection reset when uploading a photo

File size is limited to 3M or 3,072K. You will receive an error that the connection was reset if your file is larger than 3M. Please submit the highest resolution photo that you can while remaining under this file size - your photo will be resized automatically for website display, and we will store the bigger photo file in case you win a prize!

  • When I submit a photo am I giving up the rights to the photo?

Yes, as stated in the Terms and Conditions by submitting a photo, "I agree to grant Rainbow Health Initiative (RHI) and Tobacco-free Lavender Communities (TLC) a royalty-free, perpetual license to use the photographic images and statements submitted herewith (the "Work") for any purpose whatsoever. Uses may include, but are not limited to, promotion for RHI/TLC and their projects in any way, including on the web, in print publications, as distributed to the media, and in commercial products. RHI/TLC reserve the right to use/not use any Work as deemed appropriate by RHI/TLC in their sole discretion. No Work will be returned once submitted."
