The Rainbow Health Initiative (RHI) has conducted numerous surveys to gauge the priority health concerns of Minnesota's GLBT citizens. The key to good health is prevention, and RHI encourages everyone to take an active role in maintaining their good health. Here are just a few of the top health concerns of GLBT community members and resources available to help. For individuals with limited income and in need of health care coverage, visit Minnesota Care for options. STD/HIV While the number of HIV infections in Minnesota has remained constant for the past few years, rates of syphillis among gay men have increased. Symptoms may be nonexistent for years. RESOURCE: Testing Available at the Red Door Clinic Cancer Generally, men have a 50/50 lifetime risk of developing some form of cancer; a women's risk is one-in-three. Rates of skin cancer, including malignant melanoma, have increased significantly over the past decade. RESOURCE: American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Women have a one-in-seven lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. Screening and early detection is critical.
