The 2009 annual tobacco and alcohol-free Fruit Bowl was a big success! Thank you to all of the co-sponsors for the event, especially the Pride Institute and the Neighborhood Involvement Program. Big thanks to all of the businesses that supported the event as well including Elsie's, our tattoo artists, the Karaoke queen and those that made donations. A full list will follow.

Come see us at our booth in the Living Well Park! You can find us at booth#2028 (listed on the map as "RHI").
Working with TC Pride Board, RHI is sponsoring the Living Well Park of the TC Pride festival this year. This area includes many health service organizations who choose to be in a tobacco free area of Pride that focuses on health and wellness. Also in this area, RHI will provide a large entertainment area that will include yoga, Quigong, karaoke, photo booths, hula hoop classes, and lots more.

MN Tobacco-free Lavender Communities Hosts 2nd Annual Fruit Bowl, an Official Twin Cities Pride Kick-off Event June 26th, 2009, 6:30pm - midnight
In honor of the 37th Annual LGBT Twin Cities Pride Festival, the MN Tobacco-free Lavender Communities (TLC) coalition members Rainbow Health Initiative, PRIDE Institute, and Neighborhood Involvement Programs, will host its second annual Fruit Bowl, the only official Pride Kick off event in the Twin Cities that is completely alcohol and tobacco free. |

Loretta Worthington, Director of Programs for Rainbow Health Initiative and MN Tobacco-free Lavender Communities (TLC), served as the co-chair for the National LGBT Tobacco Summit (Phoenix - June 9, 2009). Worthington and TLC/RHI had abstracts accepted and presented 2 workshops: "Tobacco Use in Substance Abuse Treatment: Is it an Issue?," and "Working with LGBT Businesses to Move Tobacco Control Forward." TLC also had an abstract accepted for the National Conference on Tobacco or Health and presented "Collaborations Across the Divide: How MN Addresses Tobacco Control in Priority Populations" in Phoenix, June 10-12. |
