Community Blueprint & Rainbow Health Initiative Part-Time Leadership Position LGBTQ Tobacco Policy Campaign with Community Blueprint and Rainbow Health Initiative Position: Core Leader in peer-facilitated project Rainbow Health Initiative (RHI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities. Community Blueprint (CB) empowers youth to find creative ways to engage with social media, branding and the communities through training and team building. Core leaders will be a group of 6-8 LGBTQ young adults (ages 18-29) who will be a part of a peer- facilitated project where they will be trained on policy implementation, leadership, social marketing and networking, and branding and outreach. The core leaders will use their skills and training to develop and execute an anti-tobacco social marketing campaign, recruit other youth to participate in the campaign, and act as the voice of “cool, healthy youth” in the community. Expectations: 5-10 hours a week, including mandatory trainings (there will be heavy training the first two weeks of July 2011); flexibility in scheduling and availability required, including some evenings and weekend hours. We expect core leaders to be non-tobacco users who can commit to a minimum of 6 months with the possibility of more time available. Position start date: July 1, 2011. Stipend: $250/month As a Core Leader, you will: Receive leadership, policy, social marketing/networking and tobacco cessation training Work on policy development Gain experience working in the non-profit environment Work with other LGBTQ young adults to decrease LGBTQ health disparities Have the option to use this experience for school credit Required Qualifications: Ability to work with diverse populations and effectively in a team setting Compliance with CB and RHI policies and procedures, including maintaining a non-tobacco user and secondhand tobacco-free work environment and public image Self-identified as an LGBTQ young adult (18-29) Useful Skills: Knowledge and passion for LGBTQ health, particularly community health and tobacco use A working knowledge of local LGBTQ communities and health disparities Experience with policy development and/or tobacco control Experience with social marketing sites, including Twitter and Facebook Duties and Responsibilities: Attend all mandatory trainings, including leadership and tobacco policy trainings Actively participate in the development of an LGBTQ social norms campaign aimed at youth to raise awareness of how the tobacco industry targets LGBTQ youth
